It feels weird to associate positive changes with such an awful happening, but I think for many people, you and I included, that awful happening was the beginning of something different. And good.
Cheers,
KKarenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09033206940045546960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6135821839792630912.post-82496125160425032702011-09-19T21:42:41.932-04:002011-09-19T21:42:41.932-04:00"I'll think about changes, especially of ..."I'll think about changes, especially of the wrenching negative kind, but I'll also think about the positive ones. I'll think about the kind of hope that causes a family to plant a garden and put up some produce."

Oh my gosh, I love that. I so often get hung up on the negative associated with that day, and I haven't really looked to see how it affected us in a positive way. But I can think of several things right off when I am looking for it. So cool. Thanks for that. I usually do the avoidance thing you were tempted to do when labeling your food.

My first born was eight days old and I had hardly had any sleep. Those were dark days I don't like to revisit often, remembering the sadness and fear amped up with my post-partum emotions. But I know that it did lead to me breastfeeding for longer than I had planned (I was worried about water supply), which led to a sort of changed mindset on parenting in general, which in turn made the path to homeschooling more likely than it would have been otherwise. So interesting to look at it that way.

Thanks for the perspective!candynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12904539285373868227noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6135821839792630912.post-33711697201525963542011-09-07T23:18:02.352-04:002011-09-07T23:18:02.352-04:00Thanks for your thoughts, Erica. THAT is wild.

Cristina, Luke was one at the time, and I can tell you it's a good thing he was a snuggly baby, because he was hugged for days.

:-)
KKarenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09033206940045546960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6135821839792630912.post-14143028425704867282011-09-07T09:22:49.465-04:002011-09-07T09:22:49.465-04:00Karen, I remember thinking how lucky I was because...Karen, I remember thinking how lucky I was because I knew exactly where my children were--right beside me and ready to be hugged. I think that was when it hit me what a blessing it was to teach my kids. I can't keep them safe all the time, but I can have them with me more often than not. I had friends who were scrambling to collect their kids and there were many letters in the paper from people complaining about how hard it was to pick theirs up from school.

Peace and Laughter!jugglingpayneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10921293051956441475noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6135821839792630912.post-215429488813510962011-09-07T08:55:03.560-04:002011-09-07T08:55:03.560-04:00I forgot to mention - Eli was born at 9:11 a.m. I...I forgot to mention - Eli was born at 9:11 a.m. It was a strange thing to hear...like I shouldn't be happy at the mention of those numbers.my3ninjashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09685561431329549339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6135821839792630912.post-26437916084355158802011-09-07T08:53:42.863-04:002011-09-07T08:53:42.863-04:00My skin got all bumpy just reading this. I'm ...My skin got all bumpy just reading this. I'm not a 9/11 patriot by any means. I don't own a flag and think a lot of things many would view as unconventional in the love-your-country way. BUT, I remember where I was, how I cried for days and the torn little antenna flag I had months later. All those flags are gone (which attributes to my unconventional thoughts) but I still get bumpy arms and strange thoughts, as you do. 9/11 will always have a strange hold over all that remember in this country, I think.my3ninjashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09685561431329549339noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6135821839792630912.post-67222181758621070682011-09-07T00:03:47.631-04:002011-09-07T00:03:47.631-04:00Cristina, it's good to be posting again! Naturally, I have goosebumps :-)
Do you remember the mayor of New York telling people to go home and 'hug your children?' Still great advice.
Hope all is well -
KarenKarenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09033206940045546960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6135821839792630912.post-30385313104245254012011-09-06T23:07:57.003-04:002011-09-06T23:07:57.003-04:00I understand completely. It did not even occur to ...I understand completely. It did not even occur to me that this tenth anniversary would happen in September 2011. The whole month is a memorial to the day, isn't it?

I remember on the morning of that fateful day, I was feeling sad because of a comment my mother had made. She made me think she would be less than happy to hear I was pregnant with my third child. My husband's call that morning to turn on the TV changed my perspective completely. My mother worked in midtown and had many co-workers who lost family that day. There was a definite need for the happy news of new life.

Incidentally, my third child was born at 9:11 pm. I remember we were all stunned when we realized that.

It's good to see a post from you!
Peace and Laughter,
Cristinajugglingpayneshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10921293051956441475noreply@blogger.com
