Some of our favorite homeschooling friends live right next door to the neighborhood elementary school - ironic considering the kids have not set foot inside all their lives!
Recently Gary, the stay-at-home dad of the family, did an interview with a local paper, Bay State Parent. I love how the article showcases the best aspects of homeschooling, like 'learning in your jammies' (as Gary's son points out) and studying what you want to study, as well as addressing the ins and outs of being the parent at home. Here's the full text of the article.
As we gear up for another year, it seems like a good time to reflect on this crazy, fun lifestyle. I LOVE just about everything about homeschooling, but I think most especially, I love that when one of the boys asks a question, we can follow up on getting an answer pretty well immediately. I also love how creative they can be about solving problems and just about playing; Owen does more with a funny-shaped piece of foam than I would have thought possible. As for pet peeves about homeschooling, I have none; sometimes, it is true, I do need a mommy break but that has more to do with family life than homeschooling per se. I mean, who doesn't need a break every now and then?
So, what about you? Do you have a favorite and/or least favorite part of homeschooling?

Although I hate that I have to do, the "reporting" I am putting together right now for our district is so eye opening. I LOVE reflecting and seeing all that we accomplished in a year, all while just loving life.
I love being there for all of the eye-popping 'aha' moments. You know...when something clicks and you were the one who watched and supported them as they put the pieces together. Watching that lightbulb go on is wonderful.
I was charged with writing a blog post called "My 10 Least Favorite Things About Homeschooling". I have never hit writer's block so hard in all my life. I LOVE homeschooling!!! What is there to be down about?? Ack...I may NEVER get this thing written!!
I think my favorite part is the time we get to spend together. And "doing school" in our jammies ;D
Lease favorite? Hmm, maybe the fact that my house won't be clean for at least another 4 years. OK, it won't be clean then, either, but I'll have to come up with some other excuse as to WHY it's not clean ;)
My favorite thing about homeschooling is when we're all reading together. My least favorite thing about homeschooling is the library fines.
Thank you for the interesting article. As for the life we both lead, I'm with you: all goo, no bad. Really, there is nothing about life without school that I do not thoroughly enjoy.
here's looking forward to a great "not school" year!
Just link surfing today. Hello from a fellow home school mom who happens to live in Paraguay!
I just enjoy being able to be with three of the most awesome kids I know. They teach me about as much as I teach them. We have our good days and bad, but those are the ups and downs of life. Homeschooling truly makes life an adventure for us.
Peace and Laughter!
Our favorite part of homeschooling has to be the freedoms! The freedoms to learn how, when and where we want.
I had to mention I know the other family mentioned in the article and when I first read it that doing schooling in jammies was what stood out to me because that is my daughter's favorite part! She loves to tell people she didn't get dressed until 1 in the afternoon.
