I was really surprised to find out how much less our grocery bill was just cutting out chips and meat. We kinda accidentally went mostly fruit, veg and bulk grains right when a Sprouts opened up near us. They're a farmer's market type grocery store. Anyway, we ran outta room in the fridge and pantry. End of the month showed a $150 saving! Now I know protein's important, but we boosted our bean consumption. We still do clean meats. I think balance is key. At any rate, that's my 2 cents. Gonna go check out your column now...

I'm back. Whoa! Great article! I totally forgot to add how we often cook in bulk now for lunches during the week and for freezing later. It really helps save time and dimes...
Thanks again for the helpful insight!

A Chinese restaurant here in town lets you fill one of their take-home containers for $5 after 9pm. You can fit a lot in those things! So I figure someone can live on that for $150 a month. But maybe too much msg. :)

Love, love your banner and new profile pic.

Mister Dad - you're welcome... and may I just say how very jealous I am that you live near a 'farmer's market type grocery store?' Lucky, lucky man!

Jena - we love Chinese takeout because we can drop $40 and feast for 3 or 4 meals. Can't beat that! Glad you like the new pics :-)

About the banner, I meant to say that I love it because of Owen's footie sleepers - it is mid-May, for goodness sake, and he's still wearing blanket sleepers! No wonder I can't shake off winter...

Great column! We can't do too much bulk buying, because our freezer is already cramped, but I definitely do the Google-type thing with my recipe software. Just plug in the ingredients I have, and voila - - supper!

I also have email subscriptions to each of the local grocer's sale items, so as soon as they go on sale, I know about it!

Hi! I don't have much to offer except not to underestimate the value of coupon clipping. I have only recently started doing this and it can be helpful. (Time consuming...but helpful) Especially when your nearby grocery stores start competing with each other by offering triple coupon days. I'm off to read your article. Love the new pic!
